CENTRE WELLINGTON – The suspect in a sexual assault at a local business last month is an overweight man, likely in his 50s, who may drive a Volkswagen and has an affinity for Spandex and discussing his “physique” with female strangers while they work.

That’s according to new information released about the man on May 16 by Wellington County OPP officials.

Police now say the man, who sexually assaulted a woman at a store on St. David Street in Fergus on April 30, “drives a dark sedan that is similar to a Volkswagen Jetta or Passat.”

The suspect is described by police as white, 50 to 60 years old, tall and “heavy set.”

Police say he was wearing a dark baseball cap, dark sunglasses, dark hoody, blue spandex shorts and white sneakers, and was carrying keys and a black wallet.

“In an effort to protect the victim we will not be identifying the business,” OPP spokesperson Josh CunninghamĚýpreviously told theĚýAdvertiser.

Second incident

On May 16 the OPP revealed there was a similar incident last summer at a business on Wellington Road 18 in Centre Wellington.

“It was reported that on the afternoon of [July 27] a male, wearing a pair of red ‘Spandex’ shorts, approached a female employee and made conversation,” police stated.

“He talked about how he had lost weight and wanted to show off his physique.”

The man also admitted he owned more than one pair of Spandex shorts, including “blue and black pairs.”

Police say he also “referred to having a conversation about his physique with another woman, earlier that day, at a different local business.

“Investigators have not been able to identify the woman or business that he spoke about.”

The man in the incident last summer was described as 40 to 50 years old and, in addition to the very tight shorts, he was wearing a ball cap and a dark windbreaker.

Police say he was driving a grey Volkswagen sedan, possibly a Passat or Jetta.
