Grand Valley Lions Club rings in New Year with Polar Bear Dip

GRAND VALLEY – A total of 55 hardy participants plunged into the chilly waters of the Grand River on New Year’s Day. They were taking part in the 33rd edition of the Grand Valley Lions Club Polar Bear Dip. The event raised a record $5,578, which will be used to support the local food bank.

Lions Club donates $3000 from Duck Race

GRAND VALLEY – A total of $3,000 raised from a successful 2023 “duck race” in Grand Valley was donated by the Grand Valley Lions Club to local organizations trying to make Christmas time easier for those in need.

Lions members Kathy Nussey and Lori Benham-Culp present a $1,500 cheque to Carol van der Grinten of the Grand Valley Food Bank.

Grand River Mustangs holds Remembrance Day Classic tournament

FERGUS – The Grand River Mustangs Remembrance Day Classic tournament was held at the Centre Wellington Community 91��Ѽplex in Fergus on Nov. 4. Games involving 60 teams were played at rinks in communities around the area including Fergus, Drayton, Arthur and Grand Valley. Some of those in attendance were tournament officials, players, legion members, teachers, and Canadian Forces Reserves.

GRAND VALLEY – Melissa Karpenko joined the “Ontario Queen of the Furrow Club” when she was crowned 2023-2024 Ontario Queen of the Furrow at the Celebration of Excellence at the Orangeville Fair Grounds. Melissa lives on a farm just outside of Grand Valley and is here pictured with former Ontario Queens of the Furrow who attended the crowning banquet.

Coming Home Festival coming Aug. 11-13

GRAND VALLEY — On Aug. 11 to 13, Amaranth will be hosting the Coming Home Festival, a three-day music and wellness retreat.

The event will host 12 bands, holistic practitioners, music as medicine, workshops, local artisans, drumming circles, yoga, soundbath meditation, food vendors and forest camping along the Mud River.

The festival gates will open at 11am on Aug. 11, and will open at 7:30am the following two days.

Advertised as a family-oriented event, there will also be a “Shady Maples kids zone” which will include a sensory nature walk, chakra rock painting, kids yoga and some breathing games as well.

The Shady Maples will be open the Saturday and Sunday from 8 to 10am and 1 to 4pm. All children are welcome, and a short waiver and guardian contact will be required at drop-off.

All tickets for the event include camping, and youth passes are available. Children under the age of 12 will get in for free. Officials say tickets are limited. For more information visit: .
